Ebullient and effusive, Utah Carol’s third album is a honey-soaked blend of dreamy harmonies and laidback musings. The origin of the name may be a mystery - Utah Carol is in fact a duo consisting of vocalist, keyboardist JinJa Davis and vocalist, guitarist, keyboard player and banjo picker Grant Birkenbeuel - but there’s nothing elusive about these sublime sentiments. “Come Back Baby,” “Ruby” and “Shine Your Light On My Tears,” maintain an easy swoon and sway, belying the unabashed emotion embossed in their lyrics. However, the album’s most audible impression results from the softly assured vocals that practically ooze from these grooves -- a precious, effervescent hum that could make even Yanni seem a rabble-rouser by comparison. The gentle tones maintain their allure with a nonchalant drift that barely rises above a whisper. Mellow, but never morose, Utah Carol is a stunning example of pure country comfort.
