The sophomore set from The Tiny is a case study in how to perfect ambiance and execution. Singer Ellekari Larsson has a lot to do with this Swedish trio’s appeal, her precious child-like vocals bringing to mind the quirkiness of Kate Bush, right down to the atmospheric arrangements and its unexpected eccentricity. Although a momentary distraction, those similarities don’t detract from the pleasures this new effort has to offer. There’s a certain whimsy that’s prevalent in their approach, from the intimate glow of “Kind Of Like You,” “Everything Is Free” and “Sorry” (a compelling duet with Ed Harcourt) to the gentle glide of the otherwise bittersweet “I Don’t Like (The Way You Move Me)” and the pleading, plaintive “In Reality.” Unexpected instrumental flourishes - the plucking of strings accentuating “Everything Is Free,” the grating undercarriage of “Dirty Frames” - also add to the intrigue, but inevitably Starring; Someone Like You is an artful, engaging and -- dare we say -- fascinating set of songs, one that suggests The Tiny have a big future ahead of them.
