One listen to the opening cut on In Rhi-Fi, the second album by The Rhinos, and you’ll be able to answer the age-old question, “What would The Byrds have sounded like had they come from Malmö, Sweden instead of Los Angeles, California?” In actuality, In Rhi-Fi is a Byrds-fest from start to finish, as each song is replete with full-bodied harmonies, swirling guitar figures, and the warmest jangle this side of Roger McGuinn. Most of the tunes, like “Everything That She Belonged,” concentrate on the softer side of pop music, but others like “After Love Has Gone” and “Sometimes” add some psychedelic flourishes. “For Just Another Hour With You” is a beautiful love song which will coax a tear or two, and on “My Town” they get downright political, lamenting the state of their place of residence but acknowledging that they’ll never leave. Suffice it to say that if you’re into a soft jangle eargasm with harmonies galore, In Rhi-Fi will be a sublime listen from start to finish.
