THE MOOG

RAZZMATAZZ ORFEUM

MUSICK (2009)

The sophomore album by this Budapest five-piece shimmers with the sounds of multi-influenced pop. Theirs is a cornucopia of sound made up of a touch of glam, a bit of ’80s synth-pop, a little goth, a smidge of modern rock, and enough heavy guitars to blow your speakers out. The one common element that ties these factors together is a love of big melodies. “Lost Day” boasts a chorus that could fill stadiums. “Make Me Happy” could be taken directly from the ’60s girl group songbook. “Self and Soul” features yearning falsetto. And “You Raised a Vampire,” the first single, rides along on a danceable synth-and-guitar groove that will stay in your head for days.
