How ironic, The Miggs have outlived the record industry! The hardest working, and possibly hardest luck band in the USA don’t need no stinkin’ labels - though they are signed to the very respectable Rock Ridge imprint. Don Miggs and company (bassist Michael Lombardo, drummer Brian Totten) continue to make great rock ‘n’ roll in an era where haircuts and endorsements pass for talent - which may be more of an indictment of our society than the state of the art. Whatever, cuts such as “Suddenly Wonderful” and “Everything Is Fine” embrace classic pop songwriting with post-modern rock fervor. The ballad “Maybe” borrows a trick or two from the Stones’ “Love In Vain” as Miggs blurs the line between arena rock and blues. “Blank” shows off The Miggs’ roosty side by way of acoustic guitars, an uber-funky swamp funk bass motif and heartbroken harmonies that howl in the wind. Another perfect record by The Miggs. Is anyone surprised?
