Pinback frontman Rob Crow is back with his third proper solo album, Living Well. This is a record Crow recorded while being a stay-at-home dad following the birth of his son, and Crow continues to demonstrate that he is a man who knows his way around a Pop hook. He kicks things off here with “Bam Bam,” which accurately describes the sonic wallop provided by the opening guitar lick. “I Hate You, Rob Crow” is the “single,” and features a neat XTC-esque beat. “Up” is a simply dreamy piece of acoustic guitar-driven Pop craft, and “Chucked” features sweet harmonies that will stay with you longer than that last sugar fix. “Leveling” again references Mssrs. Partridge and Moulding sonically, and “Focus” is sweetly simple. While not in the same league as Robert Pollard, Crow is sometimes (and maybe rightly) accused of being overly-prolific. On Living Well, he has settled in and fashioned a beautifully atmospheric record. Live well and long, Rob.
