New York City has truly been one of the hotbeds of American music in the past thirty years, bringing the rest of the country and the world some of the best punk, dance, and indie music possible. One of the more beautiful aspects of such a diverse scene is that there are times bands emerge that possess the attributes and attitudes of more than just one genre. And the latest product of such an atmosphere is Pratique, flush with talent and full of energy as they fuse pulsating bass lines, kinetic beats, and a swaggering front man with a great voice. On their introductory offering, the band displays their influences and the ability to craft their own sound with equal vim and vigor, especially on the opening cut, “Death For Blushing Rogue.” Filling out the EP are the power-pop track “16 Hours,” the mid-tempo crooner “This Is How I Killed The Rekindle,” a remix of the song “My Body Hates Me” (a song with a title and lyrics that would make Morrissey proud), and a fun, airy remix of the opener. Fans of dark, danceable indie pop should definitely keep an eye and ear out for Pratique, because, with any luck, this band will be able to emerge from beneath the shadow of their influences and stand up strong on their own.
