The great thing about the concept of an EP is that it allows a group, no matter how young or how old, the opportunity the gather together the best and brightest of their current material and get it out to their fans (and potential fans) as quickly as possible. It’s free of the dross that often fills a full-length and low-priced for easy consumption. And that’s exactly the impression the listener receives when ingesting the Two Eyes EP from Pomegranates - it’s tiny, but jam-packed with musical sweetness. This Ohio-based four-piece brings to mind visions of Transatlanticism-era Death Cab For Cutie and ‘90s Britpop with their big, bright sound. The lyrics themselves are intelligent without being pompous or overbearing, drawing from literary sources that are mythological and biblical in nature. The EP’s centerpiece is the majestic track “Osidius The Emphatic” (“When you look at the sky, do you see constellations? If you look really hard, do you think you’ll see faces?”), yet since it’s less than 20 minutes long, the listener is certainly left wanting to hear much more from this talented group.
