P.G. SIX

SLIGHTLY SORRY

DRAG CITY (02/20/07)

Pat Gubler (aka P.G. Six) is back with his first release on Drag City, the melancholy Slightly Sorry. On this record, Gubler’s always present English folk influences are supplemented by occasional nods to The Band, the Byrds, and Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere-era Crazy Horse, while weaving a sonic tapestry of guitar, Hammond organ, mellotron, and his own haunting voice. From the McGuinn-like jangle of “I’ve Been Traveling” to the Tom Petty-tinged “Bless These Blues,” to the Gram Parsons-like swagger of “Sweet Music,” Gubler’s aim is true. Many of these tunes feature a female chorus, but make no mistake, the real star here is Gubler’s own ethereal voice, as he has twisted the folk genre into something all his own. Influences are discussed for reference points - Pat Gubler is definitely his own man P.G. SiX is an artist to be reckoned with.
