On Radio For Cats TV For Dogs' lead singer, Neil Luckett, takes an acoustic approach to the alt-rock/Brit-pop sound of his hard rocking quartet. This much tempered and lo-fi album, like Nirvana's Unplugged and Foo Fighters' Skin and Bones, reflects the softer side of the traditional grunge musician. Instead of acoustic re-workings of TV for Dogs material, Luckett has created all new material that focuses more on his songwriting and simple instrumentation, rather than the more traditional alt-rock of TV For Dogs. Luckett's intimate album allows him to better explore his own musical talents and experiment with the softer side of Nick Drake and Simon & Garfunkel that only his solo career would allow. As Luckett strums his acoustic guitar and sings, he feels almost vulnerable, as if he is completely alone in a small room, just he and his guitar, spilling out his soul. It's a simple and personal album that speaks volumes not only of Luckett's various musical talents, but his total lack of self-consciousness and timidity. Many solo efforts are often riddled with vestiges of former bands' musical styles and themes, but Luckett creates an individual sound that looks more into his mind and soul rather than the minds of others.
