Capturing the complexity and charm of life in a sobering but hopeful manner is no easy feat. Norwegian-bred singer/songwriter Magnet (a.k.a. Even Johansen) had no problem creating a breathtaking portrait of the little things that really matter. The Simple Life is an ode to family, values, and moments that last forever. Magnet’s ability to weave realistic topics in between layers of fanciful chords and harmonies makes the everyday feel a little more glamorous and bearable. “The Gospel Song” speaks lessons of a gentleman who has learned a little bit from the paths he has walked along. Harmonica, banjo and gentle hand clapping dance amongst Magnet’s quiet and creamy voice. “Lonely No More” feels like an awakening of the senses set to jagged but joyous rhythm that makes even the most somber of folks pull back the curtains and greet the day. “A Little Happier” is a tender and lingering love song accompanied by serene and uncomplicated bluegrass-inspired sounds. Every aspect of The Simple Life is imaginative, genuine, and enchanting.
