Almost every syllable out of Jesika von Rabbit’s mouth foreshadows menace. Rabbit is the lead singer for Gram Rabbit, a four-piece act from the outskirt community of Joshua Tree Desert. Might it be this band’s great distance from civilization that causes its member’s tiny bunny hearts to beat stranger and faster? Perhaps. Nevertheless, these players clearly exhibit musical schizophrenia, to put it mildly. They sound like a lazy, lo-fi rock band one moment, and a Saturday night disco dolly the next. Methinks they have their own private radio playing in their heads 24/7. Outsiders, like these musicians, are naturally attracted to other outsiders -- primarily because they have many anti-social traits in common. How else would you explain a twisted little song like “Charlie’s Kids? This one does a where-are-they-now on Leslie, Sadie, and Tex, who are all former members of Charles Manson’s murderous “Family. In her own uniquely spooky way, von Rabbit sings: “Charlie’s kids, where are they now?/Some have died and some have grown. Whereas normal folks wonder whatever happened to the kids from their high school graduating class, Gram Rabbit has taken the time to write and record a song about the freakin’ Manson Family’s whereabouts! Warning: follow Gram Rabbit’s bunny trail at your own risk.
