It is hard to get past the U2 influences running through Twilight by Future Of Forestry. And this inspiration is not just a musical one. Sure, the track “All I Want” rings out with bell-like notes similar to Joshua Tree-era U2, but this Southern California act also shares that famous Irish group’s Christian faith. The band’s name, by the way, was inspired by a C.S. Lewis poem, a writer - with the recent Narnia movie hoopla - whom has never been hipper. As a plus, Future Of Forestry does not evangelize the way far too many other faith-based acts do. The song “Twilight,” for instance, waxes philosophical over the sometimes tragic human condition. The practice of not pointing out obvious moral rights and wrongs is a tactic that has made Switchfoot into a popular mainstream act, without having to compromise its belief system. And speaking of Switchfoot, “Thinking of You” is hung around a guitar crunch factor so prevalent in that group’s stylistic repertoire. Despite its tree-hugging name, Future Of Forestry is by no means environmentally-centric -- at least not overtly; but it’s hard not to get caught up in this new group’s uplifting spirit.
