FEROCIOUS EAGLE

THE SEA ANEMONE INSIDE OF ME IS MIGHTY

FIFTY FOUR FORTY OR FIGHT (04/03/07)

Are they poets? Prophets? Punks? Bastard sons of Husker Du, The Minutemen and Iggy Pop? They are all of that and more throughout the wonderfully insane The Sea Anemone… A torrid triumvirate comprised of two brutally inventive guitarists, Greg Dalbey, Jon Anderson (Dick Dale meets Adrian Belew meets Frank Black?) and an equally demented drummer Eric Jensen (Billy Colbham in Fugazi perhaps?) the Ferocious Eagle soars with angular/ thrashing guitar passages, three-part disharmony vocals, a thunderous percussion attack, and complex compositions that draw from hard-core, avant-garde, surf, and progressive rock. “And Now We Have Your Tongue” ponders messages from the creator in spoken word vignettes punctuated with a delirious ascending chord progression (if I’m not mistaken, the deity eats his subjects) which is book-ended by rapid-fire staccato riffs and assorted noises. If the advertising suits at Visa had a sense of humor, the title track would make a groovy commercial for the next generation of consumers as “g-g-g-g-g-g-get a credit card” emerges as the apocalyptic mantra / motif for the 21st century. “Be Not Weary, Be Not Weak” maintains cohesion amongst the cacophony and chants of “you are so fucking lionhearted!” Rock is dead they say, long live rock.
