On “Cherry Lips, the opening track to Archie Bronson Outfit’s second full length album, lead singer Sam Windett empathizes with how fun it is to fall in love. He follows with a bit of simple, universal advice, “Try, try to get, get over it. Out on Domino Records (where the British rockers sit snugly above the Arctic Monkeys on the label’s roster), Derdang Derdang sifts through the somewhat brutal comedy of modern day love. Like the friend who tells it like it is, the Outfit spares us bullshit from beginning to end. “I suppose we’re modern lovers/we meet and we fuck and we don’t hear each other, Windett sings in “Modern Lovers. The lyrics are clever, the music is raspy, bluesy rock that hints at psychedelic influences (Also see: The Makeup), even the album’s artwork is wall-hangable (part of which reveals the three adorable, bearded weirdos). Like many of their label mates, Archie Bronson Outfit is soon to be selling out venues in a town near you. They’ve made a gigantic leap since their first album, Fur, out in 2004, and my feeling is, with all the modern love they’ll get on the road, disc number three is gonna be just as good.
