JAMIE REYNOLDS
FRANKIE KNUCKLES – "BABY WANTS TO RIDE"
Monster dark early house track and the only song I’ve heard that name-checks a Jamie.
SERGE GAINSBOURG – "REQUIEM POUR UN CON"
The drum production is second to none and I want it played at my funeral.
ODYSSEY – "USE IT UP AND WEAR IT OUT"
Number 1 on the day I was born and the story of my life.
HEADMAN – "BIRTH SCHOOL WORK DEATH"
The mantra. A story of life in four words.
SIMON TAYLOR
THE VIOLETS – "MIRROR MIRROR"
Reminds me of the darkest time of my life. Alex’s vocals are frightening…they install the fear.
LIARS – "PILLOWS WERE HOLLOW…"
Minimal Nonsensical dance song and it has my favourite lyrics; “Fins to make us more fish-like.
THE BLUE ORCHIDS – "WORK"
One of my favourite bands ever. Reminds me of when I had graduated and it was the first time I had ever been in a 9-5 going nowhere job. Listened to it every day on the way to work. Just about pulled me through.
AZTEC CAMERA – "OBLIVIOUS"
Reminded me that music could make you happy again. A great band from a great time for Scottish music.
JAMES RIGHTON
CARDIGANS – "LOVE FOOL"
One of the saddest songs ever. I used to be in love with her.
KATE BUSH – "JAMES AND THE COLD GUN"
Not one of her best songs but it’s something about the way she sings the word James…it seems like she’s calling me.
TUXEDOMOON – "STRANGER"
Weird. Made me want to learn the violin, the strings are so haunting. One of the greatest vocals of all time sung by a man on his death-bed.
THE SLEEPY JACKSON – "GOOD DANCERS"
Sounds like his ripped of George Harrison’s ‘My Sweet Lord’ but who cares when it’s done as well as this.
