JIMMY TAMBORELLO (DNTEL)

The Animated - “Edith C Sharp”
I think this 80s new wave band just put out one 12” but the first song on it is one of my favorites of all times.

The Clean - “Secret Place”
I like how this song balances upbeat poppiness with ache-y melancholy.

Dif juz - “Silver Passage”
Pretty epic 80s 4AD instrumental stuff. Has a slightly dated, new age tinge that I’ve been getting into a lot lately.

Paavoharju - “Valo Tihkuu Kaiken Läpi”
There’s a bunch of cool stuff coming out of Finland, especially on this label Fonal. Paavoharju is one of my favorites of the Fonal releases. Extra weird folkish stuff with a little of everything else thrown in.

Main - “Spectra Decay”
I just rediscovered this stuff lately, it sounds like a scary version of My Bloody Valentine that lives in a cave. Lots of guitar feedback, looping rhythmic samples and moaning, echo-y vocals.

Glissandro 70 - “Bolan Muppets”
It does sort of sound like muppets are singing this song but it doesn’t come off as a novelty. Really sweet and pretty.

Bridget St. John - “Fly High”
When I asked the record store guy if this Bridget St. John record (Thank You For…) was good he was very enthusiastic about this song. Since then I’ve bought 3 more of her records and this is still my favorite song of hers.

The Field - “Everyday”
If this song was produced differently it could be an embarrassing trance track, but he somehow leaves out all the bad stuff and just leaves the euphoric part.

King Sunny Ade - “365 Is My Number/The Message”
I love how spacey this song gets, it had a big influence on the end of the Dntel song “Natural Resources.”

Bobb Trimble - “Another Lonely Angel”
Super weird and psychedelic 60s-type stuff recorded in the 80s. This song gets so messed up, I feel like it could do some damage if you’re already feeling a little unstable.

Jesu - “Weightless & Horizontal”
I loved Godflesh in high school but somehow I didn’t hear Jesu until the release of the latest album, Conqueror. This has a similar heaviness as Godflesh but also reminds me a lot of Codeine and the vocals are a little like the guy from Swervedriver.

Berntholer - “My Suitor”
Another 80s new wave band that didn’t release much but recorded one of my all time favorites. My band Figurine did a cover of this song.
