JOSH JONES (EVANGELICALS)

What is your first musical memory?

The church in western Oklahoma, where I grew up. My mom attended an a capella-only church and the melodies from those songs are always floating around my head.

What was the first album you owned?

Well, the first records I listened to were things that my brother had... then I got some Weird Al records and then I got The Smashing Pumpkin's Gish at my brother's recommendation.

Were you not a musician, what would your profession be?

Movie Star.

What song do you wish you had written?

There are so many! "Pure Imagination" from Willy Wonka, "I Would Die 4 U" by Prince, "Little Lost" by Arthur Russell, "Raised on Robbery" by Joni Mitchell, "Frankie Teardop" by Suicide.

What was the first concert you attended?

Chainsaw Kittens in Oklahoma City. Changed my world.

What artists, dead or alive, would be part of your ultimate one-night concert performance?

Prince, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Chainsaw Kittens.

What instrument would you like to play, that you currently cannot?

Piano. Well, I play it kinda, but I'd love to be much, much better.

With whom would you like to collaborate?

Kronos Quartet

Which one of your songs would you put in a time capsule?

“Skeleton Man”

What albums can you not live without?

Willie Nelson, The Red Headed Stranger. Prince, Purple Rain. Joni Mitchell, Blue.

Who was your first pop star romantic crush/fantasy?

Hmmmmm, probably D'arcy from The Smashing Pumpkins. Now it's Joni.
